PROJECTS WITH IL0 SOMALIA

DESCON is currently working with ILO Somalia program and the ministry of public works for
the development of a comprehensive interim Roads and Bridges Design Manual for Somalia
DESCON was commissioned to undertake the following tasks:

• Carry out desk review of all the roads and bridges design standards being used by various
  institutions and projects in FGS;
• Review design standards from countries in east African region that have similar weather
  conditions, geographical features, traffic levels as well as socio-economic conditions;
• Collect and collate other relevant technical information internationally (TRL, CSIR, India,
  etc.) that can be used for the development of the design manual;
• Compile an interim Roads and Bridges Design Standard for FGS with all the relevant sections and technical details;
• Identify and recommend technical reference materials, which can be used in conjunction
  with the interim Design manual;
• Identify areas of focus for future improvement of the Design manual;
• Organize and facilitate a peer review of the draft Design Manual with relevant stakeholders;
